Play nowA chess variant where you draw modifiers that transform your pieces for the whole game.

Your bishops can swap places with one of your pieces standing in their line of sight.

Your captured pawns reappear on your first rank, in the file where they were captured, as soon as that square is unoccupied at the end of your turn. They can only move 2 squares from your 2nd rank.

Your queens can also move like a knight.
Set up a chessboard, shuffle the 3 modifier piles separately (classic, golden and radiant) and place them face down next to the board. Modifiers permanently grant powers to your pieces.
The game plays like standard chess. At the end of your turns 1, 8 and 15, draw 3 cards from the same pile, keep one and put the other two back under the pile (1st draw = classic, 2nd draw = golden, 3rd draw = radiant).
Each modifier you pick is active immediately and stays active until the end of the game. The goal doesn’t change: checkmate the opposing king.
Here are three examples of each tier (Classic, Gold and Radiant), just a glimpse of the 48 modifiers in the game.
Subtle changes that enrich the game without turning it upside down.

Your bishops can swap places with one of your pieces standing in their line of sight.
Ninja bishopsThe bishop swaps places with the friendly knight.

While one of your knights threatens the enemy king, it cannot be captured.
Threatening knightsThe knight gives check: the pawn cannot capture it.

Your pawns promote from your 6th rank onwards.
Accelerated promotionThe pawn reaches the 6th rank and becomes a queen.
Stronger powers that shake up strategies.

Your captured pawns reappear on your first rank, in the file where they were captured, as soon as that square is unoccupied at the end of your turn. They can only move 2 squares from your 2nd rank.
Zombie pawnsOnce captured, the pawn reappears on the 1st rank of its file.

Your king can bring any one of your pieces to an unoccupied square adjacent to it (lines and diagonals). This counts as a move.
BodyguardsThe king summons the rook to a neighbouring square.

Your bishops can also move like a king.
Close-combat bishopsThe bishop steps one square straight ahead, like a king.
Unpredictable and spectacular effects that can reverse the course of the game.

All your pieces can pass through your other pieces.
Ghost piecesThe rook passes through its own pawn to capture.

Your queens can also move like a knight.
Knightly queenThe queen jumps like a knight.

If you check the enemy king 6 times, you win the game (double checks count twice).
Poisoned checksEvery check counts: the 6th one wins the game.
