Intellectual Property

All content on this site, including but not limited to source code, visuals, illustrations, game rules, characters, music and texts, is the exclusive property of Antoine Larroque & Ferdinand Larroque, protected by French copyright law and international conventions. Any reproduction, copying, distribution, modification or exploitation, in whole or in part, for commercial or non-commercial purposes, without prior written authorisation from the editors is strictly prohibited.

Game Usage

The game available on this site is a free beta version, accessible for personal and non-commercial use only. This free availability does not constitute a transfer of rights to the game or its constituent elements.

Site Availability

The editors strive to keep the site accessible but do not guarantee permanent availability. The site and game may be suspended, modified or removed at any time without notice, particularly as the project evolves.

Limitation of Liability

The game is provided as-is, in beta version. The editors cannot be held liable for bugs, service interruptions, data loss or any direct or indirect damage arising from use of the site or the game.

Cookies & Personal Data

The data controller is HG Interactive (contact details above). The site and the game display no advertising and use no tracking cookies, except the Meta pixel described below, and only with your consent.

Contact form. The data you send us (name, email address, message) is used only to reply to you. It is received through the forms service of our host Netlify (United States; transfer covered by the safeguards provided for by the GDPR) and kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

Kickstarter launch and game news. If you sign up to be notified (on the website or in the online game), your email address is used, on the basis of your consent, to inform you about the launch and progress of the Jumble Chess Kickstarter campaign and about news of the game: release of the final online version and its ranked mode, opening of the online shop and availability of the game in stores. We measure email opens and link clicks in order to assess interest in our communications. Every email contains an unsubscribe link and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Your address is managed by our email service provider Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), hosted in the European Union, and kept until you unsubscribe, and at most 3 years after your last interaction with our emails.

Meta pixel (visitors coming from our ads). If you reach the site by clicking one of our Facebook or Instagram ads, a banner asks for your consent before any advertising tracker is used. So that we can ask you, the site remembers on your device, for 24 hours, that you came from an ad; no other visitor sees this banner and no tracker is used for them. If you accept, the pixel of Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd is loaded on the site and in the online game for 6 months: it sets cookies (_fbp, _fbc) and sends Meta the pages you view and three actions (signing up to be notified of the launch, opening the online game, clicking through to our Kickstarter page), and, when you sign up, your email address, encrypted (hashed) in your browser before it is sent. This data is used to measure how well our ads perform and to improve their delivery. HG Interactive and Meta are joint controllers for this collection and transmission; Meta then processes the data under its own responsibility, according to its privacy policy (facebook.com/privacy/policy), with possible transfers to the United States covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Your choice, acceptance or refusal, is kept for 6 months and you can change it at any time:

Performance cookies (audience measurement). The cookie banner also offers a “Performance” category, intended to measure site traffic in order to improve the site (for example with Google Analytics). No such tool is used at the moment: turning this category on or off currently has no effect and no data is collected for it. If such a tool is added, it will only be enabled with your consent for this category, and this page will be updated to state the service used, the data collected and how long it is kept.

Game statistics (online game). At the end of every finished game (including by resignation) against the computer, on the same screen or online, the game sends an anonymous summary of the game: mode, time control, computer level, modifiers offered and chosen, result and how the game ended, number of moves, duration, language, device type (computer or mobile) and game version. This summary contains no name, email address or identifier, and is not linked to any player or device. It is used only to balance the game and to produce overall statistics (for example the win rate of each modifier), on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the game. These summaries are stored by our service provider Supabase (Supabase Inc.) on servers located in the European Union, and are kept without time limit since they are anonymous. As with any internet connection, your IP address is transmitted when the summary is sent; it is not recorded with the statistics and only appears in the provider’s technical logs, kept for a few days at most. No cookie is used for this.

YouTube video. The “How to play” video, on the home page and on the Rules page, is hosted by YouTube (Google Ireland Ltd). As long as you do not click its image, nothing is loaded from YouTube and no data is sent to it. If you click, the player is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com (YouTube’s “privacy-enhanced mode”): Google then receives your IP address and technical information about your browser, and may store data on your device in order to play the video. Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

Advertising audiences on Meta. We may send Meta the email addresses of people who signed up to be notified, encrypted (hashed) before sending, in order to show them our ads or, on the contrary, exclude them, and to reach people with similar profiles (lookalike audiences). Meta matches these fingerprints against its own accounts and then deletes them; it never receives a readable address. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in promoting the game. You can object at any time, without giving a reason, by writing to contact@jumble-chess.com: your address will then be excluded from the lists we send.

Your data is never sold. Apart from the service providers and Meta mentioned above, it is not passed on to any third party.

Under the GDPR and the French Data Protection Act, you can request access to, rectification, erasure or restriction of your data, object to its processing or withdraw your consent by writing to contact@jumble-chess.com. If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL (www.cnil.fr) or with your local data protection authority.
